What my own Starlink Mini actually did
I have used a Starlink Mini on the Roam 100 GB plan since 2026. Below are my own screenshots and invoice, with only account and address details hidden. They are not press images.

September 23: the Mini powered by my Model YStarlink Mini installed in my Tesla Model Y
Tesla’s USB-C ports can’t supply the 20 V the Mini needs, so I power it from the 12 V socket in the centre console. Every part, photo and cable run is in the write-up.
- First in-car test with the Mini on the ground: 132 / 6 Mbps, 21 ms
- Power: JOWUA 165 W PD 3.1 car charger plus its USB-C to DC 3 m cable
- Installed September 23: no tools, no wiring, unplugs in seconds
- On the road: car stays on the Mini’s Wi-Fi, 1080p YouTube starts instantly
JOWUA provided the cable and charger free for review and did not see the article. The JOWUA links carry my code TSLNA (5% off), and I may earn a commission. Read the Tesla install guide →

Who Starlink changes things for
Three situations where satellite internet makes a real difference in Canada.
You live outside the fibre map
No cable, no fibre, a tired DSL line or a 5G gateway that dies at 8 p.m. Starlink Residential gives 100 to 250 Mbps with unlimited data from day one, for $75 to $150 a month, no contract.
Plans, prices and real speeds →You have a cottage or cabin
Roam can drop to Standby Mode ($15 a month) while you are away. Five months of Roam 100 GB plus seven of Standby is about $480 a year before tax, or $375 if you own the Mini and cancel off-season, instead of $900 for year-round service.
The cottage Starlink guide →You travel by RV, van or boat
The Starlink Mini fits in a backpack, runs off a power bank or 12 V, and works anywhere in Canada. Roam Unlimited adds in-motion use and the United States.
Roam, RV and camping guide →Three steps, under an hour
From order to first speed test, no technician required.
Check availability
Enter your address at starlink.com. In 30 seconds it shows whether you are covered and which plans and prices apply to your postal code.
Order online
Pick a plan and a kit, pay by card. The kit ships by courier in 5 to 10 business days anywhere in Canada. Month to month, cancel from the app.
Set it up yourself
The app walks you through it, the dish finds the satellites on its own, and most people are online within an hour. There is a 30-day trial if it does not perform.

WeConnectSky is an independent Canadian guide to Starlink satellite internet. We write for the people the big telcos left behind: farms, cottages, northern communities, RV travellers and anyone whose address comes back as “service not available” on the fibre map.
We track the plans and CAD prices that apply in Canada, explain what speeds people actually get from Nova Scotia to the Yukon, how the dish behaves at minus 40, how to power it off-grid, and how it compares with 5G home internet, Xplore and the other rural options. Guides are updated when Starlink changes something, which happens often.
We are not Starlink, SpaceX or a reseller. We do not sell hardware, take orders or handle support, and our guides say plainly when Starlink is the wrong choice for an address.
Canadian prices, checked regularly
Plan and hardware prices are quoted in CAD and re-checked against starlink.com, with the month they were verified noted in each guide.
Independent, not affiliated
I am not a SpaceX employee and have no relationship with SpaceX or Starlink beyond a public referral link (I personally own SpaceX shares). Referral credits never change what we recommend.
Honest about the downsides
Obstructions, congestion, hardware cost and who is better served by a cheaper option all get covered, not just the good news.
How we write a guide
The same three-step check behind every article on this site.
Start from the official source
Plans, prices, specs and terms are taken from starlink.com for Canadian addresses and dated, so you know when they were last verified.
Add real Canadian conditions
Winter performance, snow and ice, obstructions from trees, power draw off-grid and provincial coverage differences, drawn from user reports and hands-on experience.
Compare and recommend
Where Starlink is the clear answer, where a 5G home plan or fixed wireless is the better value, and what to check at your own address before ordering.
Frequently asked questions
The questions we get most. The full FAQ answers 35 more.
How much does Starlink cost in Canada in 2026?
Residential runs $75 to $150 a month before tax depending on the tier offered at your address (100, 200 or Max); Roam for a cottage or RV is $75 for 100 GB, $110 for 300 GB and $200 unlimited. Most new customers get the kit as a $0 rental (a Standard kit on Residential, a Mini on Roam) plus $19 shipping, and on Roam you can also buy a Mini for $299. Pausing costs $15 a month on Standby Mode. Full price guide.
Does Starlink work at minus 30?
Yes. The dish is rated to minus 30 and owners report it working through minus 40. A built-in heater melts snow and ice; the real risk is wet snow piling around a badly placed dish, so mount it where snow slides off.
Standard kit or Starlink Mini?
Standard for a fixed home: bigger antenna, better in snow, a $0 rental on Residential. Mini for a cottage, RV, boat or anything that moves: smaller, router built in, a third of the power draw, and a $0 rental or $299 to buy on Roam.
Is there a contract?
No. Plans are month to month with no cancellation fee, and the old free kit tied to a 12-month commitment is closed to new customers. Pausing means Standby Mode at $15 a month, and a rented kit goes back to Starlink within 30 days if you cancel.
Is Starlink better than 5G home internet or Xplore?
Faster and more consistent than both, but usually more expensive. If your phone gets strong 5G at home, a $50 to 65 5G home plan is worth trying first. Against Xplore satellite, Starlink wins clearly on latency and data.
How do I get one month free?
Order through a referral link from an existing Canadian customer, such as ours. Starlink credits a month of service after activation; on my own account it covered the second month. New customers at Canadian addresses only. How the referral works.
